Control System Upgrades: Notes;
Vertex and Andrew antennas use resolvers and as long as the resolvers are size 11 no change is necessary. For Scientific Atlanta, RSI, and existing Antennas with the complete Crystal conversion, we supply the resolvers and the machined resolver adapters. For these a pot sensor is used for polarity. We have found this accurate for transmit, and saves on the cost of an expensive gear reducer. The pot is a Bournes 3400 series wire wound pot.
For most antennas this will require a new position sensor cable to be run from the outdoor box to the controller.
The Research Concept 2500 series of controllers has direct replacements for Andrew APC100-300, Scientific Atlanta 8840, RSI 4010/4020, Vertex 7134. These can be used without ACU changes when the original Outdoor ACU is in good working condition. On some a control cable adapter is needed, on others a new control cable is needed.
When the ACU circuit board is damaged, in poor condition, or has to be replaced, and the rest of the ACU is in good condition,Research Concepts has a generic replacement. This board requires the use of the "standard I/O" version of the 2500 controller.
If the entire ACU is not worth keeping, Research Concepts has a complete ACU for this. Available with Multispeed VFD drives, or single speed contactors. We also build custom ACU's
Why VFD Drive
Many older antennas were single speed. Many were high speed only, wearing out the brakes, contactors, and mounts. Using VFD drives allows two speed operation, both fully adjustable.
